I'm thinking about trying Independence Air out of Dulles, and was wondering if any you have flown on it and what your experience was. The fares they have are dirt cheap!

Dang they are cheap. $116 round trips...

I know! I was estatic when I saw the ad in the newspaper. I'll be happy in August when they begin to offer service to JFK in NYC. I'm just wondering what their service, and planes are like.

Have not flown it, but I know they're being sued for naming rights because their planes are called iJet which is the same name as a company in Annapolis.

It is a great deal now that there are all of these cheap airlines. I doubt they offer normal conveniences of other expensive flights, but I'm not sure. I read somewhere its like being in a Kia compared to a Mercedes. Other cheap fares can be found with the airliner Ted and US Airways has a cheapfare airliner too.

I plan to fly one of them to Canada next Winter and Spring.

Have not taken this airline. I'm not particular in my flying preferences. I don't need a television or in-flight stereo, so if Independence is the cheapest, I'm there.

I have to say that this airline shouldn't be any different than any of the big boys.

1) The places that Independence serves are roughly the same as American, United, Southwest, etc.
2) Independence utilizes CRJ50 and A319 aircraft, which are similar to the big airlines.
3) The in-flight service is most likely the same (drink and crackers) on those routes.

I've flown American, United, USAir, Southwest between Chicago and Washington on the same type of aircraft that Independence flies. The service was not different. The only difference is the price.

Independence Air doesnt have any destinations west of the Mississippi River....
WVU-Mountaineers
They plan on going west of the Miss. according to their website. That really is no big deal to me, however, because I never go that far west.

I flew Independence to Chicago back in October. Service was just fine, and they fly RJ's, which I like. We have booked them for our Easter trip. Going to FL, $64 down and $44 back. Very happy with the price. However, it still close to $300 each to go to Vegas with them, which is about what everybody charges.

I wish they would fly to New Orleans.

Flying with them down to Hotlanta, Ga next month. Will report back.
momsapilot
All right, Rom, where's your report. We know you are back from your crime spree!

BTW, here's their latest deal. The daughter and I are going back to Chicago next month for $156 for the 2 of us, roundtrip, including taxes. Sweet, huh?

Oh right! I forgot about this thread.

Here is the deal. Independence is wallet friendly but the planes are horrendously small. If you notice that you are going to be flying in one of their Canadair jets, you are in for a shock. I'm a fairly tall guy about 6', my knees were pressed right up to the back of the seat in front of me. No headroom and the seats are tiny. Didn't even have enough space to take my jacket off!!!

My flight home Friday night got delayed until 10:30pm an hour after it was supposed to take off.

I will say this though, they get you to and from your location PRONTO!
Like I said the price was right too.
Funny, I paid more for the rent-a-car than I did the flight to and from Atlanta.

Consumer reports says these 3 web sites are best for travel deals. Have not tried them yet, but any travellers here may wanna give it a shot next time they travel:

www.kayak.com
www.mobissimo.com
www.sidestep.com

Good luck.

Yes, the RJs are small. That's why I love them. They are sweet and fast, next best thing to a GV, IMO. Tall people should definitely opt for the aisle seat.

I've known abour kayak and others, but have never used them. If you are looking for packages on short notice, I suggest site59.com. I have never used them because we usually have our trips planned well in advance, but if you are the spur of the moment type, it might work for you.
