For the second time this year, I have been in Chambersburg for during a city festival. In January, I was at the IceFest, and I visited the Chambersfest this past weekend. It amazes me how well thought out and planned these events have been. All the downtown businesses are invovled, the Arts Council sets up lots of entertainment, including coordinating with local student organizations to show off their talents. There are loads of food vendors centralized in the circle, and crafters selling their wares. Street entertainers, non-profits with booths, the list goes on....

Before I bash Hagerstown too much, I will admit that I have never been to the Bluesfest or Augustoberfest. Both seem so one-dimensional to me. Do both of those events draw out the local businesses (oh wait there aren't many), involve a variety of entertainment, get other community groups involved? Does the MD Theater open its doors for the local drama camp to put on a show like the Capitol Theater? (Yeah right)

I was just so impressed. We need to duplicate it here. Any thoughts on how Hagerstown can improve on its festival atmosphere??

Were they serving alcohol at the festival in C'burg?

I too went to the Ice Fest in Chambersburg this past winter. I hadn't been in Chambersburg in a long, long time and was extremely impressed with the downtown. Lots and lots of neat little stores, relatively clean, and friendly people.

Trouble was it was COLD! It's amazing how a little town like Chambersburg had so much more to its downtown than Hagerstown.

There is no reason at all why Hgr can't be even remotely like Chambersburg.

What is the IceFest?

What is the IceFest?

A downtown event that has a boatload of ice sculptures scattered all over the main street area. There's also food and hot chocolate vendors and some live entertainment. It's pretty neat.

What is the IceFest?

This descibes Hillary Clinton's house (after Bill's snarlin' session w/Monica).

AMEN! This sounds exactly like what I brought up a week or so ago!!! Unfortunately, IMO, Hagerstown is incapable of doing this because that would bring out everyone under 25 and they are ALL hooligans and immature and immoral. If you're young and living in Htown, you must adhere to conservatism and country music... or face banishment.

so I exaggerated a bit, but still

It appears that you are pretty hung up on this issue, Big. Are you really that worried about what people think of you?

I don’t think he was speaking of how he is perceived... but merely stating the fact that H’town is very conservative.

You mean people were having fun and no alcohol was served. What an amazing concept.

The IceFest was beyond cold. It was freekin' bitter! Frosty would have been bundled up 'cuz even he would have found it frigid. And I can't answer the beer question. I wasn't looking for it either time...I prefer to booze at home on the patio or at ball games. wink.gif

Get this...a guy on stilts walks up to this old guy on a motorized scooter and has him drive between his legs! It was just so funny. Hagerstown could use some funny in its streets...and I'm not talking about the psycho kind of funny. Got PLENTY of that already.

I was just so impressed by the coordination of both events and the variety of entertainment they encompassed. Young, old, families, singles, truly something for pretty much everyone.

Only problem is if this were in Hagerstown they would yank the stilts from under the guy beat the guy on the scooter with the stilts and steal his scooter biggrin.gif

.

I have been saying this my whole life. The first thing Hagerstown has to do is remove the stick from its &^%. Amen on the country music too! By the way I am over 25 and still immature, and proud of it. What is the fun in life if you can't live it.
