I'd just like to offer my comments to the Mayor on what to say and what not to say in public:
At the Willie Mays ceremony last night, Mayor Breichner had a few words to say. Some not so great IMHO.
1. Don't start your conversation in the negative: "I know the last time you were in Hagerstown, you weren't treated fairly..." Usually you want to complement first before going to the negative. It's a good ice breaker.
2. Don't say "I wish the team could have more guys like you, so maybe we can score some runs." There are at least 35 players on the Suns team that heard that comment. What kind of impression are you giving these boys? How many games have you attended that give you the right to say that? The Suns have average approximately 4 runs per game. For most leagues, that will win you some games.
Now, I may be being a bit nit picky, but when you speak and you represent a group, or in this case a town, make sure you don't plan on making the honoree(s), in this case, Willie Mays and the Suns, defensive right off the bat.
I do have to say thanks to those Council Members (and you know who you are) that did come to the game last night. It shows you that this area does support the team and that everytime you vote for funding of a new stadium improvement, you are making more of your constituents happy.
My two cents.

This whole Willie Mays thing is pi$$ing me off more and more.
He forgives us. That's just great. Who the he!! is he forgiving? The people that used the "N" word to him are probably no longer around. The people that forced him to stay in a hotel away from his team mates are no longer around.
Where the he!! does he come off with this forgiveness thing? He's not forgiving me. I never once held any bias toward him because of his race. Ninety-five percent of the people in Hagerstown, don't think of anything about him other than he was a great ball player.
He better freaking forgive us. We certainly paid him a lot of freaking money to appear here. He ought to be freaking thanking us for welcoming him with open arms, not forgiving us.
Freakin' goof.
Oh, by the way, 100% agreement with mbarone12copilot!
