So, they have this cleric Sadr surrounded in the city of Najaf. Up until this point, he didn't want to talk/negotiate. Now that him and his militia are about to get crushed by the U.S. backed Iraqi forces, he demands a ceasefire and a U.S. withdrawal.

Am I missing something here? Are we actually considering letting this terrorist walk away to fight another day. Capturing or killing him would be a huge step in restoring order in that part of Iraq. I realize he's shacked up in some holy mosque and that there will be short term backlash, but the long term benefits are significant. If he's allowed to walk, I'm giving up all hope for Iraq.

Does anybody really think that he'll give up his weapons, I certainly don't.

Isn't this just classic Iraqi battle tactics? Give up, and then when the enemy lets down their guard, start fighting again. These people CANNOT be trusted!

But then again, what can we do? Shoot 'em all after they lay down their arms? Oh the EU and United Nations would just LOVE that! This is why we must attack swiftly and ruthlessly when dealing with these people. Destroy them before they have a chance to surrender. Yes that sounds horrible. But the reality is, it's the only way to avoid worse bloodshed, including many more among civilians.

Well, they did it. They let them turn in their guns and walk away (Sadr included) to kill/terrorize/disrupt another day. I officially give up on Iraq.
