Just took my first amtrak adventure. Was ok. Both trains (to and from Chicago) were late. $350 round trip for the 3 of us in coach. Was rather roomy. Would probably do the sleeper car if it was a longer trip. Glad to be home, though.

Oh, and for you Martinsburg folks, where the h*ll are you supposed to park for long term vacations? When I arrived Sunday night (having never been there before) the place was totally locked and the only parking was permit/meters. Went to the police station and they said, "That's the only place to park, but tickets are only a couple bucks a day. You can get a permit upstairs 9-5 M-F." Well, that's helpful at 6pm on a Sunday when my train leaves in an hour. I left a note in the window and the meter hags had pity on me. My truck was still there with no tix or boots! But still, there should be some kind of long term parking set up.

ha,ha,you funny! rolleyes.gif We're talkin WV here moms!Who ever set the whole thing up probably doesn't even understand the word"long term". wink.gif Everybody that uses the lot are commuters.
And don't ya just love the fact that the police dept. doesn't have the authority(or maybe they do,they just was too lazy?) to issue you one just in case something like this comes up? rolleyes.gif
Glad things worked out for ya tho.Was thinkin you were being awful quiet! laugh.gif

I too took the train when i went to Florida. I went on the Auto Train from Lorton Va. to Sanford FLa. I loved it and the price was great $213.00 one way for me my girlfriend and our car, this price also included Dinner with wine and breakfast we pulled out of Lorton at 4:15 pm and we were unloading in Fla. by 8am the next morning. I must agree with you Mom's I would get a sleeper car next time, those coach seats are hard to sleep in. I also must admit I bought those tickets in April before fuel prices sky rocketed.

You used to be able to buy them from the Depot Florist, but since they moved I guess you've got to go to City Hall, or buy them when the MARC agenst are there.
