Is it just me or does it seem that the financial markets are overly sensitive these days? Two kids goofing off accidentally discharge a can of pepper spray in a public building, thus causing it to be evacuated. Stocks take a hit. Now I know it was near a prospective terrorist target, but gimme a break. Let's all freak out without all the information.

Oh no, I just farted...so much for the natural gas futures.

Ever been to Wall St? It's cramped. If terrorists ever got happy with a truckload of fertilizer and pulled an OK City, that area would be in a world of hurt.

The problem with investors is that selling is contagious. One person screams "fire" (sell) and everybody stampedes to sell everything.

Actually I have been there. Even took the NYSE tour and got to see the floor from the little observation area. Yes, it is tight quarters, as in most cities. If they are paranoid about something happening at that physical location, then perhaps they should build an underground bunker in the middle of nowhere. It would probably be a better commute for all the traders anyway! However, this particular event wasn't even in NY! I think it just highlights that our markets are way too tied to the media and react without all the facts.
