Who wrote the song, and what's the correct title for the song that has the lyrics, "In the white room, with black curtains."
SMan
The song is "White Room" by Cream. Probably written by Jack Bruce or Eric Clapton, who were both band members. They had some smack junky drummer, too. Kinda like some of today's bands, huh?

Clapton Rocks!

The Very Best of Cream from Amazon.com.

or one of my favorites:

Disraeli Gears from Amazon.com, one of the first 8-Tracks I ever bought. sad.gif

The smack junky drummer was Ginger Baker, I do believe.

Clapton is great, but unfortunately, his best blues were made when he was on Heroin, too. As he's gotten cleaned up and older, his sound has mellowed slightly, but it's like an old instrument - gets better with age.

My guy was Duane Allman, and my favorite Clapton album has to be Layla. Although now that I think of it, Disraeli Gears and Cream were awful good albums.....

8 tracks...Ohmgosh! I remember riding in my boyfriend's parent's Olds station wagon listening to Traffic and all the other Clapton tapes we could get our hands on. I'm dating myself, but this was back in '78 in the days of "Slowhand."

I think Ginger Baker went on to play in The Band, am I right?

That's how most great music is made. Drug induced creativity. When they clean up, they usually sound like crap.

Thanks, I love that song, but I never knew who sang it. Now, could someone help me with the song "Blinded by the light."
sheash
Naomi,
I knew that Ginger Baker had gone on to form a band called Ginger Baker's Air Force who played jazz-fusion type of stuff, then he kinda disappeared, and I just assumed the heroin got him.

I just did a quick search on the internet, apparently he's alive and quite well. He owns a successful ($) olive farm in the Tuscany region of Italy, and has done several jazz and classical albums, and still tours with an occasional rock band. But no, he didn't go to The Band. Could you be thinking about Robbie Robertson (even though he didn't play with Clapton)? If so, he died a couple of years ago.

WVU Mountaineers - Blinded by the Light is by BRUUUUUUUCE (Springsteen)!!!!

Bruce Springsteen? Have you totally lost your head?

Manfred Mann's Earth Band.

Listen to a sample from Amazon.com HERE.

Okay maybe Bruce redid it at some point in time, but the original was done by the Earth Band.
Yossarian
Whoa, after further research, I stand corrected. Bruce wrote the original words and music. But it was made popular by the Earth Band.

Blinded by the Light
Manfred Mann's Earth Band
- words and music by Bruce Springsteen
- Manfred Mann's Earth Band version (Warner 8252) was released August 1976
and reached #1 in early 1977. It was in the Billboard Top 40 for 15 weeks.
- lyrics as recorded by Manfred Mann's Earth Band on the 1976 album
"The Roaring Silence" (Warner 3055)

Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night
Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night
Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night

Madman drummers bummers, Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older, I tripped the merry-go-round
With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin, the calliope crashed to the ground
The calliope crashed to the ground

But she was...
Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night
Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night
Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night
Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night

Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I go what it takes
She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong, play the song with the funky break"
And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe outside
And little Early-Pearly came by in his curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride
Asked me if I needed a ride

But she was...
Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night
Blinded by the light

She got down but she never got tired
She's gonna make it through the night
She's gonna make it through the night

------ guitar solo ------

But mama, that's where the fun is
But mama, that's where the fun is
Mama always told me not to look into the eye's of the sun
But mama, that's where the fun is

Some brimstone baritone anticyclone rolling stone preacher from the east
Says, "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in it's funny bone, that's where they expect it least"
And some new-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner, watching the young girls dance
And some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone, reminding him of romance
The calliope crashed to the ground

But she was...
Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night
Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
{the following two sections are sung simultaneously}
~ Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I go what it takes
~ She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong"
