This boggles my mind. I wanna believe it but...
Bush, Kerry tied in Md.
ANNAPOLIS - State Republican Party Chairman John M. Kane issued the following statement Tuesday highlighting a Survey USA poll done for WMAR TV in Baltimore showing President George W. Bush and Senator John Kerry tied at 48 percent in a survey of likely voters throughout Maryland.
"Consistently, over the past three weeks, President Bush has proven to be cutting into Sen. Kerry's base," Chairman Kane said. "For those of us here in Maryland, the excitement is just about unbearable. We'd been written off to this point - been dubbed a 'blue state' and not worth noticing - but now, at least we can be seen as competitive.
Survey USA is a public opinion polling firm based in New York City, with TV station clients in small to large media markets around the country. The poll done for WMAR can be found at survey usa.com.
For the poll, 598 likely voters were contacted between Friday and Sunday. The margin of error was 4.1 percent, with 4 percent of the respondents saying they supported other candidates or were undecided.

Polls mean squat.
Actually, leading up to the last Presidential election, I think the polls were biased significantly against Bush, who won. I think that in general, most of the popular polls tend to give results biased towrds the liberals, even opinion polls. The wording is often chosen to lead one to answer a certain way, and it seems that the pollsters often publish the results without telling you exactly what it was to which people were saying yes or no. Then the liberal media take the poll results and add their own interpretation, which is usually even further liberal-leaning.
That being the case, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see Bush win by a landslide!

BMIC - the polls that are out RIGHT NOW disprove your theory that the media is liberal and biased. I just heard a report this morning that shows Bush is leading in the polls. Now why would that be reported if they were biased?
Just my opinion, I would be very surprised if Bush won by a
landslide. I don't think Kerry or Bush will win by a landslide. I think this year's election is going to be a close one, just as it was 4 years ago.

Think again. I heard what you heard DAYS AGO, weeks ago even, and the situation hasn't changed. It's the basis for my suspicion that Bush may win by a landslide.
Bush's lead may be so immense that even the most clever of the pollsters can't totally hide it. The best they can do is underestimate it, and they probably have.

Ok, I've heard the same for a couple of weeks now, so back to my original question - how does that make the media biased? And I agree with Romulus - polls don't mean anything.
I'm not sure where you've been getting your information, but there's just no way he'll win by a landslide, if at all.

We shall see come November. I'm just saying that considering the bias that's usually in these polls, Bush may be doing better than most people think.
One thing it seems we both agree on: polls don't mean much if anything. I believe they usually have a liberal bias, but who really knows if that's still true. It's fun to speculate, though.

As I said already...
In opinion polls, one can ask the question and then later interpret it in a way to get just about any answer you want.
In a simple who will you vote for poll, the bias is more one of sampling. For example, if they take a big city phone book and pick names at random, they miss the opinions of rural voters. If two polls of such a simple nature give results that are different even including the reported sampling error, then you've got to assume somebody's sample isn't truly representative.

If they do that though that's not a true poll because it contains sampling bias, and I'm sure that the majority of news organizations do scientific polls.

You would hope so, but their science seems to be lacking in quality when election results look nothing like the polls taken immediately prior to the elections, as is often the case.

LOL. Greedy, you'll like this one, I think...
One summer day of 2005, a little old man walked up to the gate at the White House, approached a Marine and said, "I want to speak to President Kerry and see where he lives."
The Marine answered, "Sir, Mr. Kerry is not the President and does not live here."
The next morning, the little old man was back. "I want to talk to President Kerry and see where he lives."
The Marine answered again, "Sir, Mr. Kerry is not the President and does not reside here."
The third morning, the little old man approached the MArine and asked his question once more.
The Marine, onfused and unsure of the little old man's condition, said, "Sir, do you not understand? Every day I tell you that Mr. Kerry is not the President and that he doesn't live here. Why do you continue to return day after day?"
The little old man looked up with a twinkle in his eye and stated, "I know good and well Mr. Kerry isn't the President. I just enjoy listening to other people say it."
The Marine snapped to attention, and saluted, saying, "See you tomorrow, sir."

There are less than three months until the election, an election that will decide the next President of the United States.
The man elected will be the president of all Americans, not just the Democrats or the Republicans.
To show our solidarity as Americans, let's all get together and show each other our support for the candidate of our choice. It's time that we all came together, Democrats and Republicans alike.
If you support the policies and character of President George W. Bush, please drive with your headlights on during the day.
If you support John Kerry, please drive with your headlights off at night.

Returning to the forum after a couple weeks... expecting to see some spirited debate on this one, but it looks like a very congenial bunch. I haven't followed the Maryland polls, but nationally it appears Kerry has pulled into a statistical tie and has momentum on his side. After getting creamed in the first debate, and following the shellacking that Edwards laid on Cheney, Bush better have Karl Rove ("Bush's Brain") go in his place for Debate #2. Or, at the very least, have Rove pull out one of his famous Dirty Tricks (an affair... a missing tax return... uh, a Young Communists membership card) or the Republicans can kiss their butts goodbye. Bush now has his back against the wall, so the pressure is on. There's no telling what's going to fall out of his mouth, but whatever it is, we know he'll repeat it for 90 minutes!

From where I sat it looked like Cheney beat the pants off of girly-man Edwards!
In fact, both sides are saying their guy won the VP debate. Which IMO is a sign it was a good one in this case since it means that both Cheney and Edwards did well.
Kerry and Edwards are all fluff and no substance. Bush and Cheney are all substance and while Bush could use a bit more fluff to convince the ignorant fools out there, Cheney kicked butt!
