I recently moved up here from Baltimore (for a job) and am missing my old hangouts in Fells Point & Canton.

Is there anything else to do for a 30 year old guy in this area??? unsure.gif

Hiking on the Appalachian trail. Canoeing/kayaking on the Potomac. Sightseeing at Antietam Battlefield Park. Picnic at any of an assortment of public parks.

Porch sittin'. Gabbing it up with the neighbors.

What type of hangouts? Tell us what you're interested in...

nothin' like in FP or Canton that you're used to!

Hopefully some of the younger members of the forum may have some suggestions. Is Barracuda's up on the dual hy still poplar? The Eclipse in the Longmeadow Shopping Cter, but be careful of teenie nights.

Don't think we have anything that can compete with the Horse (is that still in FP?) or Bohagers!

Whoops forgot the Broadax, downtown on Franklin St next to the main Post Office. And, supposedly Creekside off Eastern Blvd is good.

Bored - if dance clubs are your thing, the aforementioned Barracuda's and Eclipse. If you prefer the general hangout bar, for the younger people, Corner Pub is nice, as is the Broad Axe.

All of these places have their busy nights of the week, but I've been out of the mix too long to tell you which night is for which. smile.gif

Love to go to Eclipse on Saturday night for the dance party. However, the majority of goers are 25 and under. (Now that college is in session, baseball season is over, the crowd may be a bit older.) Creekside is very laid back, hang out on the deck, shoot pool. Line dancing on Friday night I think. Replays at the Sheraton on Dual Hwy. hosts a Monday night football party sponsored by one of the radio stations. Only been once--sucks having kids and a job--but it was ok.

Other than that, house parties are the way to go. Invite over your neighbors, friends, co-workers and hang out at home while watching the game on your flat panel in your basement bar! cool.gif

Now, if you are the outdoorsy type, sky's the limit. Welcome and enjoy!

Not my thing.

I went to Barracuda's once. Thats enough for me. I guess if I was looking for a one night stand I could go there again cool.gif

Thanks for the tips. I'll have to check them all out

Does anyone know where to go to see live music, or local bands? Are there any bars like that in Hagerstown?
momsapilot
Never been to 'Cudas but heard that there are some skanky people there! laugh.gif

Phish, you and Bored might benefit from a little magazine called The Valley Revue. It's free and comes out at the beginning of every month. I know you can find it at the library downtown. Greencastle Coffee Roasters had some when I was there, too. Don't know where else you might run into it. Their webpage is a bit cumbersome, and I couldn't find the live music schedule that appears in the hard copy.

A couple of other places I forgot to mention earlier. The Stadium Tavern has awesome, huge wings, and a patio for nice weather. Breakaway II on PA Ave. north of Longmeadow Rd. has several TV's for games, but is definitely on the redneckish end. Niether place is exactly hopping with hotties.

To that end, I wish you well in your search, Bored. I hate to sound pessimistic, but finding a quality girl around here is going to be a bit of a challenge. Most who have any ambition have moved from the area to pursue an education/career. Those who remained started popping out kids at age 14 and have a half dozen by now from an equal # of fathers. Although, the area is growing, and with more people moving in, I'm sure the caliber of eligible women will improve. wink.gif

The Broad Axe does bands every so often... Olivers used to have live music, like jazz (not sure if they still do)...

There is a comedy club on the Dual... never been there.

Also... there's a new sports bar in town with pool tables. Used to be Jeffrey's, then Ralph & Maria's, now it's called Breakaway Lounge 2.

Personally, for nights out (we're a mid-20ish to mid-30ish crowd), we go out to dinner than back to someone's house for board games. Guess we're lame. wink.gif

Also... you can find karaoke at Crazy Horse.

If you expand your horizons a bit, you can go to Casey's in Greencastle or The Orchards in Chambersburg.

And I think there's a place in Mechanicsburg (which is a bit of a hike) called Wanda's that does live music.

Well if I were going to drive that far, I'd probably just go to D.C. or Baltimore. I find it very frustrating that there doesn't seem to be a lot of events scheduled for the 20's to 30's crowd, that doesn't involve sports or something like that. I find that almost all performances scheduled at the MD theatre are geared towards family or older crowds. I've only seen one performance there and that was Bela Fleck (awesome). I just wish they offered more diverse shows at the MD theatre - and not all theatrical shows either. I'd like to see more bands perform there.

Ok, I'm stepping off my soapbox now. biggrin.gif

I agree. Even our Borders is lame. Some Borders stores do live music, poetry readings, etc. I think ours has an author speaking like, once a month, and that's it. Woo Hoo.

What we need is a cool, hip place for our generation... Personally, I would LOVE it if someone opened a nice wine bar with some live local bands... maybe a jazz or blues night...

Wanna do something fun?

Drive down to Winchester on a friday night. Then hit all the bars in the old town area. Almost every single bar around the loudon street mall have live entertainment and tons of nice single women. Plenty of decent people too. (not your typical meat markets like barracudas.)

Yeah, that's the problem. dry.gif You have to drive out of the area to experience anything entertaining.

Well if H-town would clean up the cess-pool known as downtown people wouldn't have to drive to Winchester to enjoy a safe and fun night on the town.

You could always go cruise the Dual Highway! laugh.gif laugh.gif Anyway, if you want clubs your best bet is to go to DC or I guess back to Baltimore, possibly Frederick (do they have any clubs). I'm not too familiar with Frederick since I rarely venture into Maryland outside of Hagerstown.

Or you could go to New Jersey, though I've heard being in NJ is like getting shot and then being hanged. wink.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
