Just a Poll to find out why we even have an Ice Rink.

My daughter used to take lessons there, but we've had to scale back the variety of classes, and skating was one that we dropped. (We also ditched 4-Star gymnastics, piano lessons, and swimming at the Y) Yes, she keeps busy!
Figure skating is really growing and they offer a club that goes around to regional competitions and such. They also bring in professionals for clinics, produce a couple of shows each year...kinda like a recital if you will.
On the other end, they have a big hockey following as well. A boy who used to go to preschool with my daughter is very involved in the sport, spending as much time on the ice as my daughter does in the dance studio (5 classes a week).
It just has to do with what your interests are. We like to go during the lunch skate, which only lasts an hour, is very reasonalby priced, and doesn't wear wear on my poor old ankles as much!
I throw it back at ya.....Have YOU ever been there? And why do ask?

We have an ice rink because it's something fun to do...especially in the winter when you're cooped up in the house with kids on snow days! My boys were involved in ice hockey, and liked to hang out on weekends to meet their friends from school.

Why ask why??

Good, clean, COLD fun. The members of our youth group get together and skate sometimes as a way to engage in social activity and get more active. So many times kids don't have enough public spaces to congregate with all the appropriate supervision. The Skating Rink provides a good place for kids to express themselves in a safe environment.

Are you really asking should this be tax payer funded. If so I would have to say no no no.. The City needs to sell this money pit. If it can't stand on it's own two feet then they need to dump it.. My 2 cents..
