( Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame / February 26, 2013 ) Hewins was a librarian who is considered to be a pioneer in library services for children, according to the Hartford Courant. She was a librarian at the Hartford Young Men's Institute, now known as the Hartford Public Library in Hartford. Hewins was dismayed to discover a scarcity of children's materials in the library and spent considerable time and resources to develop a children's collection. She also partnered with local schools so that children would have better access to library materials. Hewins died at her home in Hartford. |
