With the summer months coming to a close in the next few weeks, I wanted to do something out of the ordinary.
We will create something easy and refreshing, so you can enjoy the last days of summer in style.
For the next few weeks, I will be giving you some deliciously refreshing summer beverages, loaded with flavor.
But first you have to know the basics of these drinks.
To kick it off we will start with a simple syrup. Then we'll move to a sour mix.
These will be your foundation for the drinks to come.
Next week, I'll have a peachy strawberry lemonade that is sure to make you think of summer.

3/4 cup water
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (not concentrate)
1/2 cup fresh lime juice (not concentrate)
Combine water and sugar in a saucepan on medium heat. Stir constantly until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Allow to cool to room temperature. Add in juices, mix well and store in a sealable container in the fridge up to 1 week.
Cook's note: This recipe can be made without cooking, but the flavor is more complex when combining the juices with the simple syrup after it has been cooked.
