Seib, Al ¿¿ ¿ LOS ANGELES, CA ¿ OCTOBER 19, 2009: Newly painted Oscar Statues dry after getting a fresh coat Monday morning at a undisclosed Los Angeles County location in preparation for the Governors Awards and the 82nd Academy Awards. All the Oscar statues get a new coat of paint that will have more shine this year with a darker base that more closely resembles the statuette. The scenic artists are using a low VOC paint this year that has no metal and is more California compliant. The Academy will present the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award to producer¿executive John Calley, and Honorary Awards to actress Lauren Bacall, producer¿director Roger Corman, and cinematographer Gordon Willis. All four awards will be presented at the Academy's inaugural Governors Awards event on Saturday, November 14, at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center. The Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2009 will be presented on Sunday, March 7, 2010. (Al Seib / Los Angeles Times)
