Gene Summers, 83

The architect <a href="http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-gene-summers-20111221,0,1882258.story" target="blank">died in December</a> of <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="HEDAI0000092" title="Liver Disease" href="/topic/health/diseases-illnesses/liver-disease-HEDAI0000092.topic">liver disease</a>. He was an associate of <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PEHST002279" title="Ludwig Mies van der Rohe" href="/topic/arts-culture/architecture/ludwig-mies-van-der-rohe-PEHST002279.topic">Mies van der Rohe</a> and was instrumental in the revival of downtown L.A.'s Biltmore Hotel in 1976.
