William Powell's Nick Charles is introduced at a bar instructing the bartenders and waiters on the proper rhythms for shaking cocktails. "Now a Manhattan you shake to fox-trot time, a Bronx to two-step time, a dry martini you always shake to waltz time." Later, when Nick's wife, Nora, finds him, she inquires how many drinks he's had. When he says he's had six martinis, she orders six for herself so she can catch up. It's a perfect introduction to the boozy and witty adventures the husband and wife detective duo will have throughout the series.
