Wanda Jacobs Beckner and Dr. William "Bill" Beckner celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary Aug. 30, 2012, at Hagers-town City Park. The Beckners' courtship was mostly by mail while Wanda was in college and Bill was serving as an Army paratrooper in World War II.
They were married Aug. 30, 1946, in Reidsville, N.C., shortly after his discharge from active duty.
For their anniversary party, the Beckners were joined by two of their five children, Dr. Jane Mauk of Winchester, Va., and Dr. Beth Beckner-Mills of Falling Waters, W.Va., for a picnic lunch beside the lake.
Festivities continued that evening when they shared an anniversary cake with residents and staff at Charlotte's Home Inc. near Boonboro.
The Beckners are also the parents of Dr. William D. Beckner, Mr. Richard G. Beckner and Mrs. Marsha B. Yarbrough.
They have five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The Beckners would like to thank family and friends for the beautiful cards they received and the kind thoughts expressed in them.
Bill practiced ophthalmology in Hagerstown for more than 30 years. For a number of those years, Wanda managed his office, as well as their home.
