Kay and Mary Guessford of Halfway celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Curtis Shank of Falling Waters, W.Va. The Hawaiian theme sit-down dinner was also hosted by the Guessford’s other three daughters and their husbands, Deidra and Scott Herbert of Allentown, Pa.; Denise and George Gouin of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; and Debra and John Sharatt of Hagerstown. The Guessfords grandchildren served the guests.
The Guessfords were married Aug. 9, 1952, by the Rev. J. N. Evans in the parsonage of the Church of God on South Artizen Street in Williamsport. They renewed their vows with Pastor W. Gregory Martin of Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsport, who performed the ceremony.
Mrs. Guessford is the former Mary Elizabeth Pike, daughter of the late Clearence and Edna Pike of Kemps Mill. Mary is a full-time homemaker and a floral designer. During the Guessfords Air Force career, Mary moved her family 27 times, living in Alaska, Okinawa, Japan, and many cities in the United States. Their five children were born in four different cities.
Mr. Guessford is the son of the late Grover C. and Jessie M. Guessford. He is a 25-year veteran of the United States Air Force. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He also served tours in Alaska, Greenland, Okinawa, Japan, and numerous bases in the United States. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as a letter carrier with the Hagerstown Post Office, retiring after 17 years of service.
