Jack and Jane Smith celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September 2012. They were married Sept. 7, 1952, at United Church of Christ Reformed in Funkstown.
The celebration started Sept. 3, with a family gathering and planning meeting at the home of their son, Mark.
The Smiths were seen at Olive Garden on Sept. 7.
On Sept. 9, the family hosted the fellowship hour at The Church of the Holy Trinity in Halfway. At this celebration the Smiths had the opportunity to celebrate with their church family, most of whom they’ve known for more than 40 years.
The family met again Sept. 16, to celebrate Jack’s birthday and plan for the next party.
On Sept. 23, family and friends again gathered at The Church of the Holy Trinity for the final celebration. A presentation was read confirming what all the siblings felt, “We had a great childhood with wonderful, caring and loving parents.”
Mr. Smith is a veteran of the Korean war, was postmaster at Funks-town Post Office for 30 years, and served as fire chief of Funkstown for many years.
Mrs. Smith was a registered nurse at Washington County Hospital for 12 years before becoming Dr. Edward Ditto III’s nurse for 36 years.
The Smiths raised five children, sons Dave, Mark and Matt; and daughters Ann and Becky. They have eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
