Morgan Tapley, 11, daughter of Don and Julie Tapley of Hagerstown, will compete in the National American Miss Maryland Pageant. It will be held Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Hyatt Regency Reston, Va.

Miss Tapley's activities include ballet and jazz dance at the City Ballet School as well as playing violin, singing in the school chorus; yearbook club and student council. She also enjoys swimming, bike riding, horses, reading and spending time with friends.

The National American Miss pageants are held for girls ages 4 to 18, and have five different age divisions. Morgan will be participating in the pre-teen age division. The pageant program is based on inner beauty, as well as poise and presentation. Activities and competitions are kept age appropriate. Girls younger than 12 are not allowed to wear make-up, and there is no swimsuit competition.

The winner of the pageant will receive at $1,000 cash award.
