Eureka: The memorial service for Loretta F. Hylton, 90, of Eureka will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at Carlsen Funeral Home in Eureka. The Rev. Dianne Rood-Kiesz and the Rev. Mary Lou Gruebele will officiate.
Inurnment will be in San Jacinto Valley Cemetery in San Jacinto, Calif.
Loretta died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at the Eureka Assisted Living Center.
Loretta F. Miller, daughter of William and Marie (Ritter) Miller, was born Feb. 29, 1920, on the family homestead northeast of Eureka. Her parents died when she and her siblings were very young. The children were divided up to live with uncles and aunts. She attended rural school and, as a young woman, she moved to Seattle, Wash., during World War II to work in the shipyard. She worked as a welder building ships. She later moved to California.
She was united in marriage to Clarence Pete Hylton on July 26, 1954, in California. She worked in food service in various delicatessens in the Los Angeles area. Her husband died in 1988. In 2002, she moved back to Eureka.
Loretta loved crossword puzzles, reading, and completing jigsaw puzzles.
She attended St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Eureka.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Annie Miller of Baker, Mont.
Her parents, husband, two brothers - Harold and Eugene - one infant sister, Olivia, and two sisters - Lillian Kessler and Tillie Gradberg - preceded her in death.
The organist will be Willis Kiesz and special music by the Rev. Dianne and Willis Rood-Kiesz.
The family prefers memorials be sent to Eureka Assisted Living Center.
