Sixty-six high school students will gather in Aberdeen Thursday evening for the 2012 South Dakota All-State Jazz Band.
The annual gathering runs through Saturday at Northern State University. The event concludes with a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Guest artists are Michael Philip Mossman of Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College at City University of New York, Dean Sorenson of the University of Minnesota, Dave Stanoch of McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, Minn., and Grant Manhart of NSU.
Students will break down into three big bands and a combo. The big bands are led by Mossman, Manhart and Sorensen. Stanoch will lead the combo.
Among the participants are eight Aberdeen Central students and one from Groton.
The Central students are bassist Everette Ulvog, trombonist Cameron Jarvis, alto saxophonist Jamie Stadel, baritone saxophonist Kristin Wileman, pianist Michael Marmorstein, guitarist Dan Hartung, drummer Ben Drexel and bass trombonist Luke Bergjord.
The Groton student is trumpeter Erin Sternhagen.
Tickets for the closing concert are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
