Letter writer Kenneth Packard is angry. Apparently, he sped past a sign that said "WORK ZONE, 45 MPH" or something similar, was caught by a speed camera, and was assessed a fine of $40 ("Speed cameras: A shameless government money grab," Feb. 25). He feels he should be allowed to speed through a work zone without penalty. We all are constantly tempted to go faster than the speed limit.
I live in a community where the speed limit on all the streets is 15 miles per hour. It is almost impossible to drive that slowly. It is a learned skill, believe me.
If police officers had been posted at that work zone and Mr. Packard had been ticketed, he would have been charged with a moving violation, and his appearance in court would have been required.
My advice? Obey the law and then gripe about the blankety-blank speed limit. It won't cost as much that way.
