A man was shot in the leg in the Orangeville community of East Baltimore on Thursday night, according to city police.

Officers responded to the 4500 block of Ashland Avenue about 9:19 p.m. for a report of a shooting and found the injured man, said Detective Angela Carter-Watson, a police spokeswoman.

The community is a handful of homes dropped in the middle of — and relatively isolated within — an otherwise industrial area. It is not known for violence.

The man was taken to an area hospital, Carter-Watson said. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, she said.

About an hour after the shooting, detectives could be seen focusing their efforts on a large white house on the corner. The area was otherwise devoid of people.

No further information was immediately available.
