MARTINSBURG, W.Va. —Tuesday is the last day to register to vote in the 2012 general election in West Virginia.
The League of Women Voters will be conducting voter registration at Scarborough Library at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Citizens can download the state voter registration form or check their registration status on the West Virginia Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.wv.gov.
Citizens must not be currently under conviction for a felony, including probation or parole, or a court ruling of mental incompetence, according to the secretary of state’s office. Voting rights are restored when the term of conviction ends.
Residents can register to vote in person at the Berkeley County Clerk’s Voter Registration office at 110 W. King St. in Martinsburg; at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 100 E. Washington St. in Charles Town, W.Va.; and at the Morgan County Courthouse, 77 Fairfax St. in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Proof of address, such as a driver’s license, utility bill or paycheck, is required.
As of August, there were 66,405 registered voters in Berkeley County, 35,017 in Jefferson County and 11,621 in Morgan County, according to the secretary of state’s office.
