KNOXVILLE, Md.—A Frederick, Md., man was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash between a tractor-trailer and a passenger car Friday afternoon on U.S. 340 east (Jefferson Pike) near Md. 67 (Rohrersville Road) in southern Washington County, according to a Maryland State Police news release.
David James Forward, 56, of Frederick, was killed in the 5:55 p.m. crash, troopers said.
Gregory Steven Givens, 31, of Yemassee, S.C., was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, troopers said.
Forward, who was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta, was eastbound on U.S. 340 when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the car and it crossed the grass median into the westbound lanes, troopers said.
Givens, who was driving a 2004 Freightliner Columbia tractor-trailer, was unable to avoid the collision and the truck struck the Jetta on the passenger side, troopers said.
Troopers did not say whether the accident was weather-related.
No charges were filed, and the accident still was under investigation.
