CASCADE —Fort Ritchie Community Center will host its second annual Polar Plunge Party at Lake Royer on the Fort Ritchie campus in Cascade on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013.
The event will feature a campfire on the beach, s’mores, hot chocolate and music on the deck beginning at noon, with the plunge occurring at 1 p.m. Fort Ritchie’s Lakeside Hall will be open with a cash bar and hot soups.
Last year’s party saw more than 100 plungers between the ages of 6 and 80, with an additional 150 spectators.
Participants are required to raise at least $25 to support Fort Ritchie Community Center, which entitles them to a long-sleeved polar plunge T-shirt. Spectators are admitted free of charge. Participants under the age of 18 need supervision and a parent or guardian’s signature. Prizes will be awarded for individuals and teams raising the most money, best costume and best body paint.
Pledge forms and additional information can be found at www.TheFRCC.org, or by calling 301-241-5085. New this year is an online donations option. Find the FRCC Polar Plunge on Facebook at “Polar Plunge 2013 at Lake Royer,” text the word “Fort” to 22828, or send an email to khubbard@TheFRCC.org.
Sponsorships are available.
The funds raised benefit the Fort Ritchie Community Center and its programming, including an eight-week history based summer camp, technology access to underserved area youth, free community holiday parties, low-cost access to fitness and health services, senior-specific programming, arts and cultural events.
