After the City of Hagerstown’s annual Christmas tree lighting in Public Square Monday night, a crowd moved up South Potomac Street for the 22nd annual Hollyfest.
The holiday music event showcases the talent of local youth, and 11 groups performed during the 7 p.m. show.
The two-hour performance was free to the public and is intended to be a “gift” to the community, said Karen Giffin, spokeswoman for the event.
“As you can see, we pretty much fill up each year,” said Giffin, looking toward the crowd that was filling the theater before the show.
After moving up the street after the tree-lighting ceremony, the crowd lined up at the entrance of the theater until the doors were opened. The line extended from inside the theater down to the sidewalk along South Potomac Street.
Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II, who stepped to the podium before the show, said he thought it was the biggest crowd yet for the event.
Bruchey talked about the tough economic times the city is facing and thanked the sponsors who helped pay for the holiday show. Sponsors included Antietam Cable Television/Disney, Verizon Wireless and The Columbia Bank, Hagerstown Trust Division.
