The southbound lanes of Interstate 81 near the Marlowe and Falling Waters exit were closed for more than an hour Monday night after a tractor-trailer crash.
A Berkeley County 911 supervisor said at 10:30 p.m. she was sure traffic was backed up into Maryland and she said the 911 center was getting complaints from motorists caught up in the gridlock.
Only the trailer section of the rig overturned, blocking both southbound lanes shortly before 9:30 p.m., the supervisor said.
A state police spokesman said he thinks the crash might have been caused by two trucks that had traveled too closely together on the interstate.
No injuries had been reported and West Virginia State Police were on the scene handling the investigation, the supervisor said.
