The deadline for Maryland homeowners to file Homestead Applications with the State Department of Assessments and Taxation is Dec. 31, according to the Washington County Treasurer’s Office.
Homeowners have received notices from the State Department of Assessments and Taxation regarding the application process, yet many have not responded, the Treasurer’s Office said in an emailed news release.
To find out if you have already filed the one-time application, homeowners may go to the SDAT website at www.dat.state.md.us and click on “Real Property Data Search.” Next, click on the county name where the property is located and enter the street address.
A page with property information will be displayed, and the lower left corner of the page will indicate if a Homestead application has been submitted, the release says.
Homeowners must submit the application to avoid losing the semi-annual tax payment option, and the potential to receive eligible credits in the future, according to the release.
Homeowners with questions about the program may call the State Department of Assessments and Taxation at 410-767-2165 or 1-866-650-8783.
