A Hagerstown man was in critical condition Monday afternoon at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after he was struck Sunday night by a vehicle on Pennsylvania Avenue, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Ronald Preston Sanders, 46, of 1127 Carroll Heights Blvd., had been listed in serious condition earlier in the day Monday.
Sanders was walking south on Pennsylvania Avenue near the entrance to Volvo Powertrain when he crossed the roadway into the path of a northbound vehicle driven by Beth Lopez of Chambersburg, Pa., according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Lopez was not injured, but was taken to Meritus Medical Center for observation of an unrelated condition, the release said.
Pennsylvania Avenue was closed for a time following the accident. A reconstructionist was called to the accident scene, said Lt. Art Overcash of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
