Vehicle ends up under house following crash
WILLIAMSPORT — A vehicle ended up under a house after an accident on East Salisbury and Artizan streets Sunday night, a Washington County 911 spokesman said.
The wreck was reported at 7:45 p.m. and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crash, the spokesman said.
Additional details were unavailable Sunday night.
Jewelry stolen, beets opened during burglary
MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Jewelry was stolen and a can of beets opened during a burglary Friday at a home just north of the Maryland-Pennsylvania state line, according to a news release from the Pennsylvania State Police.
Between 2:30 and 6:20 p.m. Friday, someone broke the lock on the front door at 14536 Little Cove Road, southwest of Mercersburg, entered the home and stole various pieces of jewelry, state police said.
The suspect also opened a can of red beets with an electric can opener, leaving the can’s lid on the countertop, police said.
The news release does not state whether the beets were eaten or taken.
A basement window also was broken and a pillowcase stolen from the victim’s bed, state police said.

Crews respond to mattress fire
No one was hurt during a small mattress fire Sunday morning at 830 Westwood St., near Pangborn Elementary School, Hagerstown Fire Battalion Chief Mark Cleck said.
The fire was reported at 10:17 a.m. Sunday, according to Washington County Emergency Services.
Damage was estimated at $1,000, Cleck said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
Residents were alerted of the fire by smoke, before the smoke alarm went off, Cleck said.
