Fire damages Wayne Highway home
WAYNESBORO, Pa. — An electrical fire damaged a single-family house at 10748 Wayne Highway on Wednesday morning, Waynesboro Fire Chief Dave Martin said.
Firefighters were called to the scene near Prices Church Road at 9:24 a.m. Martin said they used a thermal imaging camera to find the origin of the fire in an attic floor.
“It was hard to get to,” he said.
Crews opened up the floor and tackled some hot spots for about two hours, Martin said.
Responding departments included Waynesboro, Mont Alto, New Franklin, Greencastle and Fountaindale from Pennsylvania and Leitersburg from Maryland.
A smoke detector on the second floor was activated, Martin said. Homeowner Nelson Beaver and his wife were home, but they evacuated safely, he said.
The house will be habitable once some electrical repairs are made, according to Martin.
