Interstate 270 shut down after accident
FREDERICK, Md. — Interstate 270 near mile-marker 28 was shut down for about 40 minutes Sunday morning after a car rolled over and a helicopter had to land to take the passenger to a Bethesda, Md., hospital, Maryland State Police said.
Police said it appears the driver might have fallen asleep, losing control of the northbound 2007 Nissan Versa, which hit an embankment and, at some point, rolled over, according to a state police news release.
The accident at the scenic overlook near mile-marker 28 happened around 4:55 a.m. Sunday, police said.
The driver, Nancy Garcia, 24, of Montgomery County, Md., was taken via ambulance to Meritus Medical Center, police said.
The passenger, Silvia Flores, 21, of Frederick, was flown via a U.S. Park Police helicopter to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, police said.
A Suburban Hospital spokeswoman said the hospital did not have a patient by that name Sunday night.
Metal rims stolen from trailer
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Four 15-inch metal rims were reported stolen from an unlocked trailer in the 17100 block of Spring Run Road, according to a Pennsylvania State Police news release.
The theft occurred between 5:30 a.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Safe stolen from Frederick home
FREDERICK, MD. — A safe containing money and personal items was stolen, but no one was injured during a home invasion in Frederick on Friday night, Frederick Police said.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. Friday when a resident in the 800 block of Rhine Court and some friends were smoking in the backyard, according to a Frederick Police news release.
They were approached by two men, one of whom was holding a handgun and told them to remain still while the other man went into the house and got the small, portable safe, police said.
The suspects fled on foot toward Schifferstadt Boulevard, police said.
The first suspect was described as a thin black male around 5 feet 7 inches tall. He was wearing a red hoodie and had a doo-rag tied around his face, police said.
The second suspect was described as a thin black male around 5 feet 8 inches tall, police said. He was wearing tan cargo pants, a brown hoodie and a doo-rag, which was tied around his face.

Man sought after allegedly hitting, attempting to choke woman
Washington County Sheriff’s authorities were looking for a man after he allegedly hit and tried to choke a woman Sunday morning off Pennsylvania Avenue.
The incident on Donald Street, off Pennsylvania Avenue north of Maugans Avenue, was reported at 10:05 a.m. Sunday, Sgt. Daniel Faith said.
The man fled out the back door when Faith arrived and a brief foot pursuit ensued before police lost the suspect, Faith said.
The woman was taken to Meritus Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, Faith said.
Man injured from fall off scooter
A 65-year-old man was taken to Meritus Medical Center with serious injuries Sunday afternoon after he fell off a motor scooter in the 900 block of South Potomac Street, according to Washington County Emergency Services.
Hagerstown Police responded to the accident, which was reported at 5:44 p.m. Sunday, a 911 dispatcher said.
