Staff Sgt. Robert M. Devitto, 26, of 237 Strike Eagle Drive in Broadway, N.C., and formerly of Fort Loudon, Pa., died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at WakeMed Hospital in Wake County, N.C., following a duck hunting trip with his dog, Mayhem, in Lee County, N.C.
Born May 11, 1986, in Allegheny County, Pa., he was the son of Linda A. (Devitto) Strite and retired U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Larry D. Strite, both of Shippensburg, Pa.
He was a 2005 graduate of James Buchanan High School in Mercersburg, Pa., where he played on the football team.
Following graduation from high school, Robert joined the U.S. Army. He was currently a staff sergeant on active duty, stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. He had served one tour in Korea and one combat tour each in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He and his wife, Jaimi K. (Sherrill) Devitto, were married July 25, 2007, in Chambersburg, Pa.
Robert was a member of Clarence Armstrong VFW Post 6241 in Mercersburg, and he enjoyed hunting, playing pool, motorcycles, Penn State football, and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his sister, Nicole M. Devitto of Shippensburg.
Services will be Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, Pa. Following the service, a reception will be held for a time of fellowship and refreshments.
The family will receive friends Friday from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial with full military honors will be Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery.
