While Hagerstown was bare Tuesday, the ground was whitened and a light accumulation of snow occurred on some roads in the areas of Sideling Hill, Cascade and Raven Rock Road following a weather system that moved through the region, according to Ed Plank, director of the Washington County Highway Department.
About six or seven trucks were used throughout the county Tuesday but they were only spreading salt, Plank said.
“It was pretty minor,” said Plank, adding that he had not heard of any accidents from snow.
While the ground was covered with snow along Raven Rock Road near Smithsburg, Mayor Mildred “Mickey” Myers said Tuesday afternoon that there was no snow on the ground in town.
Forecasters had said Monday that up to 1 1/2 inches of snow might fall in Hagerstown. But Tuesday afternoon, the ground was bare, streets were clear in the city and the roads were starting to dry.
But with temperatures expected to dip to 27 degrees Tuesday night, forecasters were saying motorists should be watchful for slick spots.
Plank said his department will have trucks out on Wednesday morning to battle any black ice that might form.
According to Hagerstown weather observer Greg Keefer’s website at i4weather.net, 0.33 inches of precipitation had fallen in Hagerstown as of 7:45 p.m. The city saw a trace of snow and ice, the website reported
