The fourth annual Cinderella’s Closet fundraiser to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County raised $1,790 for the animal shelter.
Skills USA students hosted the event March 9 at Washington County Technical High School on Oak Ridge Drive in Hagerstown.
Marjorie Kellman, Skills USA/SGA adviser, oversaw the fundraiser.
The students who participated were Alicia Coblentz, Zeyzahn Aliyeva, Cyrina Avery, Stephanie Larrick, Zoe Garcia, Genesis DeLaCruz and Richard Rinehart.
At Cinderella’s Closet, those participating could purchase prom dresses and related items at reduced prices. The community was asked to donate items before the event.
Julie Rohm, general manager of Valley Mall, coordinated the loan of several dress racks from J.C. Penney for the event. The Tommy Hilfiger store at Hagerstown Premium Outlets also loaned a dress rack for the event. Judi Wilson and Joyce Lee from Potomac Bridals donated gowns for the event.
“We always said we wanted to do what we could to give back to this wonderful community and this seems to be a great way to do just that,” Wilson said.
“We are pleased we could help,” Lee said.
Thais Reilly was instrumental in dressing animal shelter executive director Paul Miller in a blue gown to promote the event.
The humane society is at 13011 Maugansville Road in Hagerstown. For more information, call 301-733-2060 or go to www.hswcmd.org.
