Two die in fire

Two children died Friday in a house fire in Cumberland, the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office said.

Firefighters found the remains of a 7-year-old girl in a second-floor bedroom of the row house on Harrison Street Friday morning, said Bruce Bouch, a spokesman for the s fire marshal’s office.

Her 10-year-old sister was pronounced dead at a local hospital earlier Friday after firefighters rescued her from the house.

The girls’ mother and their 7-month-old brother escaped without injury, Bouch said.

The blaze was reported shortly after 6 a.m. Friday, authorities said.

A Cumberland city firefighter was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries, Bouch said.

Five housing units were affected by the blaze, and  the American Red Cross wass helping the families involved, he said.
