The Imperial and Coachella valley’s legislative leader will now chair a Hispanic caucus task force.
Assemblyman V. Manuel Pérez, D-Coachella, has been named the chairman of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators’ Business & Economic Development Task Force, according to a press release from his office.
“It’s an honor to serve as chair of the NHCSL Business and Economic Development Task Force,” Pérez said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the task force members to advance an empowerment agenda that emphasizes community investment and job creation, helping to ensure all Americans are able to succeed in and benefit from the new economy.”
The task force’s mandate is to develop policy platforms that will advance the economic needs of Latino families across the nation. The newly appointed vice chairwoman of the task force is representative Jenniffer González Colón, who serves as Speaker of the House of Representatives of Puerto Rico.
“As legislators, we are all deeply committed to improving the communities we serve, and that often begins with the economic and financial well-being of our constituents,” said NHCSL President Rep. Minnie González of Connecticut. “I have no doubt that Assemblymember Pérez and Representative González Colón will help our organization educate and advocate successfully in our nation’s capital.”
The NHCSL is a national association of Hispanic state legislators working to design and implement policies that will improve the quality of life for Hispanics throughout the country. Founded in 1989 as a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, its mission is to serve as an effective voice for Hispanic legislators.
