Quarterback Matt Flynn threw a 4-yard touchdown pass and running back Vai Taua scored on a 2-yard run as the Seahawks beat the Oakland Raiders 21-0 in the final preseason game Thursday night. Seattle finished a perfect 4-0 in the preseason.
Now, coach Pete Carroll must cut the roster from 75 to 53 players by Friday night.
Starting quarterback Russell Wilson played the first quarter and was 5-of-11 for 72 yards before he was taken out in the second quarter. In the first half, Vai Taua scored a touchdown on a 2-yard run to finish off an 11-play, 78-yard drive.
The defense was stout throughout the game. On a third-and-9 play, rookie cornerback Jeremy Lane intercepted a Matt Leinart pass that went off receiver Brandon Carswell. The pick gave the Seahawks the ball at the Raiders’ 39, setting up Steven Hauschka’s second field goal of the game.
The only other touchdown came in the second quarter, when Flynn led a nine-play, 90-yard drive and hit tight end Cooper Helfet from 4 yards out for a TD.
With a safety by defense lineman Jay Howard, the Seahawks defense has scored in three of the four preseason games this year.
The Seahawks open up the regular season at the Arizona Cardinals.
