Two boats were destroyed in a fire early Saturday morning at the Seward Boat Harbor.

The Seward Fire Department says it received a call at about 3:30 a.m. from a 23-year-old man living on the boat that initially caught fire. The fire then spread to the boat in the adjacent slip.

Officials say the man was injured in the fire and is being treated in Anchorage for second and third-degree burns.

Fire crews from the Seward, Bear Creek and Moose Pass fire departments were able to contain the flames in about 45 minutes.

Deputy SFD Chief Eddie Athey says the harbor department was able to move neighboring boats away from the fire and deploy a boom around the blaze, containing debris and any fuel spills within the boom.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
