"Happy birthday to Kansas' favorite son, Bob Dole!" Roberts tweeted.

Roberts and his staff made a special effort for Dole's 88th birthday by taping a rendition of "Happy Birthday" in Roberts's D.C. office.

In the video, Roberts says he and his staff intended to visit the "Russell Dairy Queen" to celebrate, referring to Dole's hometown of Russell, Kan.

The town, where Dole retained his parents' home as a residence throughout his political career, including his presidential campaign, has a population of about 4,500.

Roberts said he and his staff intend to remain in the city "given everything that's going on," likely referring to the ongoing deficit debate.

Kansas Republican Reps. Kevin Yoder and Tim Huelskamp also wished Dole a happy birthday on Twitter. Watch Roberts and his staff sing below.
