Kansas' Dwight Eisenhower was in The White House. Fidel Castro came to power in Cuba. Sleeping Beauty opened in theaters. The year was 1959. It was the same year that a time capsule was buried at the downtown Wichita YMCA.

On Monday, the contents of the capsule were unveiled. They include a trowel that was used in the construction of the 1907 YMCA Central Branch building, a copy of the Wichita Beacon newspaper, a 1959 map of the city.

The capsule and its contents will go on display at the Wichita Public Library's Central location in December.

Also on Monday, a new time capsule was placed in the cornerstone of the new YMCA. In the new time capsule is a labtop with several different files about the city and the YMCA.

The new $23 million Robert D. Love Downtown YMCA opens December 10. It is next to the existing building.

The current facility will be torn down to make room for a parking lot. The old YMCA closes December 5.

The public will get an early chance to see the new building at Central and Market with an open house on Saturday, Dec. 8.
