HAGERSTOWN—A Washington County man and a Pennsylvania woman were taken to Meritus Medical Center following a minor accident Wednesday at the intersection of Halfway Boulevard and Downsville Pike, Maryland State Police said.
Daniel McCray, 35, of 17812 Greentree Terrace in Hagerstown, and Judy Burrell, 43, of 104 Minick Drive in Newburg, Pa., were treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
State police said the accident occurred at about 9 a.m., when the Subaru Outback that Burrell was driving came off the Interstate 70 exit ramp and tried to make a left turn onto Downsville Pike. The Subaru then struck a Ford Escort that was being driven by McCray as the Ford entered the intersection from Halfway Boulevard.
Troopers said the driver of the Subaru was cited.
Traffic was snarled for more than 30 minutes at the intersection while emergency personnel worked at the scene.
In addition to state police, the Washington County Sheriff's Office, and fire units from the Volunteer Fire Co. of Halfway and Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co. responded to the accident. Fire police were called to direct traffic.
Both vehicles had heavy front-end damage and came to rest in the intersection.
The scene was cleared at 9:35 a.m.
