Martin said the driver of a Chevrolet pickup truck lost control of the truck while heading east on I-70, the truck then overturned, landing on its roof in the median.
The driver of the truck, the only person in the vehicle, was pulled from the vehicle and treated in an ambulance from Clear Spring Rescue Squad before being airlifted by a Maryland State Police helicopter, Martin said.
The driver had “severe injuries,” according to Martin.
Police later said Jones was in critical condition.
Eastbound I-70 was shut down after the 9:11 a.m. accident. The right lane reopened around 10 a.m. All lanes had reopened by 10:50 a.m., a Washington County Emergency Services supervisor said.
In addition to the Maryland State Police, Maryland State Highway Administration and the Clear Spring Rescue Squad ambulance, two firetrucks and an ambulance from Williamsport Volunteer Fire-EMS, two firetrucks from the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Co. and one engine from Washington County Emergency Services Special Operations were on the scene.
