Bystanders nab woman trying to steal another woman's purse
Bystanders helped Hagerstown City Police nab a woman who attempted to steal another woman's purse Friday morning in the alley behind the Baltimore Street Car Wash.
Sgt. Eric Knode said the incident happened at about 11:45 a.m., when bystanders grabbed the woman as she tried to take the purse.
Knode said the victim had some "redness on her neck," but didn't seem to be seriously injured.
Another catalytic converter stolen from county park and ride lot
A catalytic converter was stolen from a parked vehicle Wednesday at the Weaverton Park and Ride lot in southern Washington County, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said.
Thursday's incident marked the second time in less than two weeks that thieves stole catalytic converters from vehicles at local park and ride lots.
Maryland State Police said last week that catalytic converters were stolen Sept. 20 from four vehicles at park and ride lots in Washington County.
The pollution-reducing converters, which contain platinum and palladium, have become highly valuable as metal prices climb, officials have said. The estimated loss due to the thefts was $2,000 per vehicle.
Money, items stolen from four vehicles parked on Applewood
The Washington County Sheriff's Office reported that someone stole money and miscellaneous items earlier this week from four vehicles that were parked east of Hagerstown.
Deputies said they received a call at about 1 p.m. Thursday that the vehicles were entered in the 1900 block of Applewood Drive, the sheriff's office said.
Applewood Drive is located between U.S. 40 and Black Rock Golf Course.
Jewelry stolen in afternoon from home in Boonsboro
Authorities said jewelry was stolen Wednesday afternoon from a home near Boonsboro.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office said the incident was reported at 3:30 p.m. in the 20600 block of Benevola Church Road.
