The Washington County Board of Elections is reminding voters that the deadline to request an absentee ballot for the 2012 presidential general election is Tuesday, Oct. 30. The election is Tuesday, Nov. 6.
Any registered voter in Maryland may request and vote by absentee ballot.
A voter who wants to vote by absentee ballot must submit a written and signed request for an absentee ballot. An application can be printed from the state board of elections website at www.elections.state.md.us/voting/absentee.html or may requested by telephone, in writing or in person at the Washington County Board of Elections at 35 W. Washington St. in Hagerstown. The telephone number is 240-313-2050.
The request for an absentee ballot may be returned by mail, fax or email (as an attachment). The board of elections must receive a completed and signed absentee ballot application by 8 p.m. on Oct. 30, if mailed.
Faxed or emailed applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. on that date.
After Oct. 30, all requests for an absentee ballot must be made in person at the Washington County Board of Elections. After Oct. 30, the late application for absentee ballot will be posted at www.elections.state.md.us/voting/absentee.html, but a voter must submit the late application in person at the Washington County Board of Elections during normal business hours.
