FUNKSTOWN — The committee organizing the Funkstown Re-enactment for July will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. on April 6 in Pavilion No. 4 in Funkstown Community Park, Town Councilman John Phillips III said Monday at a council meeting.
Pavilion No. 4 is by the back entrance to the park, off Robert Kline Way.
Council votes against sponoring camp
FUNKSTOWN — The Funkstown Town Council voted not to sponsor a baseball camp, being held June 27 to 29 in Halfway, that would pay for softball field lights at Fairgrounds Park in Hagerstown and benefit Little League Baseball.
Assistant Mayor Sharon Chirgott suggested the town not sponsor the camp because it hasn't approved using taxpayer money in the past when other organizations made donation requests.
Baltimore Orioles Luke Scott and Brad Bergesen are scheduled to participate in the camp.
Council OKs camping for Tent Troupe
FUNKSTOWN — The Funkstown Town Council voted 5-0 Monday night to permit a traveling summer tent theater group to camp overnight in Funkstown Community Park.
The Washington County Coalition of Lutheran Churches wants to bring the Montgomery County, Md.-based group to Washington County on June 28, said Barry Warrenfeltz, representing the coalition.
Hagerstown and Washington County parks do not permit overnight camping, Warrenfeltz said.
The Tent Troupe would arrive around 8 a.m., set up tents and support equipment for two evening shows, strike the tent and leave the next morning, Warrenfeltz said.
Six to 10 portable toilets would be brought in for service during the shows, Warrenfeltz said.
The plays are intended to make the audience think about basic questions encountered in life, according to event materials.
The permit and insurance would be covered, Warrenfeltz said.
Assistant Mayor Sharon Chirgott and council members Richard Nigh, Kim Ramer, John Phillips III and Richard L. Gaver approved the group using the park. Councilman Robert "Bobby" Rodgers Jr. was absent.
