A 34-year-old Hagerstown man was killed Thursday night in a single-vehicle crash in the 9000 block of Hedgesville Road, according to West Virginia State Police.
Thomas Kegarise was a passenger in the front seat of a 2009 Kia Spectra driven by his brother, Timothy Lee Kegarise, also of Hagerstown.
Thomas Kegarise was taken to Martinsburg City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Timothy Kegarise, 32, was flown to Winchester (Va.) Medical Center. A spokesperson there would not release his condition Friday. State Police Sgt. J.D. Burkhart, commander of the Martinsburg Detachment, said Friday evening he did not have additional information concerning Kegarise’s condition.
Frank Mason Jr., 21, of Hancock, a passenger in the rear of the car, was flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital. His condition also was not available Friday.
The car was traveling east on Hedgesville Road when it crested a small hill, crossed the center line and left the northern edge of W.Va. 9, striking a fence, said police, who were dispatched to the crash at 10:25 p.m. The vehicle continued for about 30 feet, then went airborne for another 50 feet before it struck a home at 9058 Hedgesville Road, police said.
The car came to rest on its wheels, police said.
Police said speed was believed to be a factor in the crash and that the investigation was continuing. West Virginia State Police Trooper M.C. Morgan, who responded to investigate the fatal crash, notified the family of the deceased, according to Burkhart.
