A Hagerstown woman who was critically injured in a fatal traffic accident last week has been released from a Baltimore hospital.
Denise Baez, 22, was released from R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center on Saturday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Baez was injured July 23 when the 1999 Toyota Corolla she was driving south on Eastern Boulevard was struck by a northbound Cadillac CTS being driven by Stephen Bonafede, 28, of Mountville, Pa., according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The front-seat passenger in the Toyota, Luis Enrique Salazar-Reyna, 19, of Hagerstown, died shortly after the 11 p.m. accident at Meritus Medical Center east of Hagerstown.
Baez’s 3-year-old son, Yesiel Baez, was riding in the back seat and was taken to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Washington County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Carly Hose said a family member told her that the child’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Bonafede was charged with one count each of negligent manslaughter by vehicle; criminal negligent manslaughter by vehicle; negligent vehicle homicide — under the influence; negligent vehicle homicide — while impaired; driving a vehicle while impaired by alcohol; and driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
He also was charged with two counts each of causing life-threatening injuries with a vehicle while impaired and causing life-threatening injuries with a vehicle under the influence.
Bonafede was released from the Washington County Detention Center on July 24 after posting $100,000 bond, a Washington County District Court commissioner said.
