A man and woman accused last year of molesting a girl over an eight-year period have both been cleared of the charges, according to Washington County Circuit Court records.
Randy Lynn Willard, 48, of Hagerstown, was acquitted in a Feb. 20 jury trial of charges that included sex abuse of a minor, sex abuse of a minor as a continuing course of conduct and first- and second-degree sex offenses, his attorney David Harbin said.
Other charges, including rape, had been dismissed prior to the start of Willard’s trial, Harbin said.
Tina Louise Smith, 41, formerly of Hagerstown, also had been charged with rape, sex abuse of a minor and other offenses involving the same alleged victim. Charges against her were dismissed midway through her jury trial on Jan. 8, Assistant State’s Attorney Brett Wilson said.
Smith and Willard had been charged with abusing the girl between 1996 and 2004, according to the application for statement of charges filed by Hagerstown police. The alleged victim was an adult by the time she came forward with her allegations in February 2012, the charging document said.
